Process:
1. You will be assigned to a group. Within your group you will study
and research your assigned state. Each group member will have an important
job to do.
2. You will collect and record data about geographic
features (landforms, water bodies, climate, cities, vegetation), famous
people, regions, places of interest, facts and trivia, and historic
sites in Kansas. One person will be responsible for each category, but
you
may
help other
group members. See your teacher if your group has too few people for
all the topics. The Resources page
of this webquest will tell you how to find out where to get this information.
But first...
Group Jobs:
- Draw a map
of Kansas showing and labeling rivers, regions, and cities
with populations over 100,000,
and the town where your school is located.
- Find information
about the three regions of Kansas. Write
about their climates, natural vegetation, farming, ranching, and
natural resources. Tell the
names of the largest city in each region.
- Write about at
least one roadside
attraction in Kansas that is interesting to visit,
and choose at least one interesting item from the lists
of facts and trivia.
- Write about three
or more historic places in Kansas.
- Write about three
or more famous people from Kansas.
3. You will use
the Internet as well as your social studies book, Kansas book, the
encyclopedia, and other books, selected by your teacher. You
are allowed to use any additional resources you find, but the ones listed
on the "Resources" page should be enough.
4. Make sure you
have all of the information you need to create a convincing advertisement
that will get people excited about visiting Kansas. You should have
a copy of this Information
Sheet in
your folder. This will help you keep
track
of
the information
you
will
need.
You will turn this in to the teacher before you present to
the class.
If you finish
your own assignment early, be sure to help out another group member
so your group can get all the points you deserve.
5. Once you have
gathered your information. You and your group will create your presentation.
Your presentation must include information from all of the categories
listed in number 2 on this page. You have two choices of presentations.
You and your group may:
- write and present
a TV commercial trying to convince the class to come to visit Kansas,
or
- make a poster
with pictures (drawn or cut from magazines) that
show some of the great
qualities of Kansas, and present it
to the class explaining all the different parts.
6.
Once your group and yourself has decided how you will make your
presentation, tell your teacher. You will have a couple of days of
class time
to work together.
You may click on "Resources" to
find how to get all this information.
